What are IP Ratings?
Ingress Protection ratings classify the degree of protection a lighting fixture provides against solid objects, like dust, and liquids, such as water. The rating consists of two numbers: the first indicates protection against solid particles (on a scale from 0 to 6), and the second indicates protection against moisture (on a scale from 0 to 9). For example, an IP67 rating means the fixture is completely dust-tight and can withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter for a limited time.
In marine and outdoor lighting, choosing fixtures with high IP ratings is crucial to ensure durability and performance in harsh conditions. IP65 or higher ratings are typically recommended for areas exposed to water, salt, and weather elements.
