What are IP Ratings?

The second number, ranging from 0 to 9, represents the degree of protection against moisture, including water droplets, splashes, and even immersion. For example, a rating of "0" provides no water protection, while a rating of "7" or "8" indicates that the device can withstand being submerged in water up to a certain depth. This moisture protection is vital for marine LED lighting or outdoor applications where lights are frequently exposed to rain, waves, or humidity.
In marine lighting applications, IP ratings are especially important for ensuring that LED fixtures can withstand exposure to saltwater, heavy rain, or splashes. For instance, an IP67-rated light is both dust-tight and capable of being submerged in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes, making it ideal for underwater installations or areas that experience heavy splashing.
